We are delighted to welcome your child and whānau to Young Learners. We believe early childhood education is a shared journey, where tamariki, whānau and kaiako come together to live, learn and love.
We create a warm, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported and confident to explore, discover and grow. Through meaningful relationships, play and learning experiences, we celebrate each child’s individuality while building a strong foundation for their future. Together, we nurture curiosity, connection and a lifelong love of learning.

National Curriculum
Guided by Te Whāriki, we view children as capable learners with individual strengths, interests and learning potential at Young Learners.
Learning happens through play, relationships, conversation, exploration, challenges and reflection. Kaiako intentionally support children to understand themselves and their world, think creatively, develop values and character, and grow in both independence and interdependence.

Together we live, love, learn and leave a legacy
Young Learners Early Childhood Education Centre is a privately owned education and care service at 2 Airdrie Road, Ranui, West Auckland. Since opening in July 2021, we have been committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and nurturing learning community where children, families and kaiako can learn and grow together.
We are licensed for up to 65 children from 6 months to 5 years of age, including up to 15 children under two. Our learning environments and programmes are thoughtfully designed to respond to children at different ages and stages of their early childhood journey.
We place strong emphasis on children’s wellbeing, relationships, sense of belonging and growing independence, while building genuine partnerships with parents, whānau and our wider community. Early childhood education is not only about preparing children for what comes next, but about helping them live, learn, love and leave a legacy through meaningful experiences, relationships and contributions to the world around them.

More than childcare
With years of experience serving families across Ranui, Henderson and Swanson, our team has developed a strong understanding of what local parents want for their children. Families are looking for more than just childcare: a safe, caring and welcoming place where their children feel happy, supported and inspired to learn and grow.
We take collaboration and partnership seriously. It forms the foundation of our professional culture and is essential to achieving equitable learning outcomes for all tamariki. High-quality early learning emerges from authentic partnerships, where knowledge, reflection and relationships are continuously co-constructed to serve the best interests of every child.

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”
— O. Fred Donaldson
Young Learners is a place where children, parents and kaiako come together to live, to learn, to love and to leave a legacy, as a whānau.
To live
Children learn best when they feel safe, healthy, secure and that they belong. We place physical and emotional wellbeing at the foundation of our curriculum. Our environments, routines, nutrition and relationships are designed to support tamariki to flourish. We acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi and value Aotearoa New Zealand’s bicultural heritage while respecting and celebrating the cultures, languages and identities within our community.
To learn
Guided by Te Whāriki, we view children as capable learners with individual strengths, interests and learning potential. Learning happens through play, relationships, conversation, exploration, challenges and reflection. Kaiako intentionally support children to understand themselves and their world, think creatively, develop values and character, and grow in both independence and interdependence.
To love
We value trusting, caring, respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationships. Social and emotional competence is an important part of our curriculum. Children are supported to understand feelings, communicate needs, develop empathy, build friendships, solve problems and participate positively with others.
To leave a legacy
We want children to know that their ideas, actions and relationships matter. As their capabilities grow, children are encouraged to contribute, take responsibility, care for others and their environment, and develop the confidence to make a positive difference in their whānau and community.
A space designed for young children
Our rooms are named after native birds of Aotearoa New Zealand. The age ranges are approximate: transitions are considered in relation to each child’s readiness, relationships, development and learning needs, not simply their birthday.

Tui
The foundations of learning begin with secure relationships, responsive care, communication, movement and exploration. Kaiako provide calm, respectful and unhurried care while supporting tamariki to build trust, curiosity, autonomy and a strong sense of belonging.

Kea
As children’s language, mobility and social awareness expand, kaiako support growing independence, self-help skills, communication, emotional regulation, friendships, curiosity and problem solving. Children are given increasing opportunities to make choices and participate in their learning community.

Pukeko
Older tamariki deepen communication, social competence, inquiry, problem solving, early literacy and mathematics, responsibility and leadership. Transition-to-school learning is woven through the programme so children approach their next stage with confidence and a strong identity as learners.
Across the centre, learning is intentionally built upon rather than restarted. Foundations developed in Tui are extended in Kea and deepened further in Pukeko.
Our young learners
Children learn best when they feel safe, healthy, secure and that they belong. Our environments, routines, nutrition and relationships are designed to support tamariki to flourish.
